In accordance with the report from the University of Technology, Human Technology Institute has developed a new model for facial recognition. Using this technological model, it would be ensured that technology can be ensured for protection from harmful use as well as ensuring the benefit of public use.
Although, as of now, there is no law that recognises the usage of facial recognition technology. Furthermore, the UTS professors Edward Santow and Nicholas Davis are developing methods to address a Law regarding facial recognition and addressing the threat to privacy and human rights. Besides, the rise of bio-technology-based sensors such as fingerprint sensors has led to concerns with regard to privacy. These technology-based resources have also brought convenience to users. Thus it won't be right to just abolish the usage of these technologies.
Facial recognition technology needs to have a sort of regulation that provides a strong balance between convenience and usability. Specifically, the model law states that anyone who deploys this recognition technology needs to assess the level of human right risk that might be associated with an application. Moreover, this law would set out different requirements, restrictions as well as prohibitions.
