Millenium Technology Prize

Professor Martin Green from UNSW Sydney has won the coveted Millenium Technology Prize. For the most part, this award is provided for his work in ensuring the transformational production of solar energy. Moreover, this award also recognises the leadership in developing the Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell Technology. Specifically, this could, in turn be a significant option for the development of different solar cells.

This award was presented by Technology Academy Finland, and the worth of the prize is around 1 million euros. The president of Finland Sauli Niinistö presented the Award to Professor Green. On receiving the award, Prof Green said that “I believe the Prize will increase my credibility as a spokesperson for what needs to be done to address climate change. We need to switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy to sustain the trajectory of human civilisation on our shared planet.

The pace of change is accelerating and the world will shift to solar and wind energy over the coming decade. I believe a huge transformation of historic significance is underway.”In the meantime, prof green is working on technologies to increase the efficiency of solar cells by more than 35%.
