RMIT university partnering with European Agencies for Autonomous Driving Project

Autonomous Driving Project

The RMIT University is a collaboration with European agencies with the purpose of designing autonomous vehicles. With the significant rise in autonomous vehicles in Europe, it has become essential to have a secure ecosystem in which the whole transport system gets enhanced. For this reason, this is a significant requirement for a technological system that regulates these transport systems and bodies. The Cooperative Conncenct Autonomous Mobility (CCAM) ecosystem has been developed to improve different aspects of the whole transport system.

However, with this high-level digitization of these systems, there is an increased risk of external threats such as cyber-attacks and cyber-terrorism. For these reasons, SELFY, the acronym for SELF assessment, protection & healing tools for a trustworthy and resilient CCAM, has been developed. However, it is the first funded research collaboration between European coordinator Eurecat and RMIT that began in 2021.

Accordingly, RMIT will provide a contribution to providing artificial intelligence techniques that play an essential role in the detection and prevention of cyber-attacks. At the same time, SELFY will also provide technological tools as a part of their collaboration for the detection of vehicles that are vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

Although the tools are now in the prototype stage, once they have been developed and approved by regulatory agencies, they will be implemented in different traffic infrastructure-based organizations. The whole project was launched in July in the presence of Dr Shabhan Kasra, Professor Ibrahim Khalil, and Associate Professor Fengling Han from RMIT school of computing.
