Research on Sharks

A marine biologist from the University of Western Australia has conducted research on sharks. Furthermore, the research has found that sharks prefer scraping the surfaces of pelagic fishes, which could improve their health. In the meantime, National Geographic Research Fellow Dr Thompson and Prof Meeuwig from the University of Western Australia have published their findings of the research on PLOS one.

According to Dr Thompson, "Parasites can negatively affect the fitness of their hosts by draining resources and diverting energy from growth, reproduction and other bodily functions." Furthermore, the research has been spanned over three ocean basins, and thus they have recorded the scraping-based interactions, which involve tuna, blue sharks and mako sharks. Besides, the scraper species have their scraping preferences varied mostly on tuna sharks and rainbow runner fishes consisting of more varied locations on other sharks as well as other rainbow runners. Meanwhile, using these studies, the cause behind the decline of the shark population in the oceans.
