Monash Researchers find early indicators of Dementia

The members of the Monash Research team have administered hand grip tests and have found data that links to early forms of Dementia. In addition, walking speed and grip strength have been found to be the early indicators of Dementia and similar ailments. Slow walking speed and weak grip related to hand are found to be some of the predictors of cognitive decline and dementia-related symptoms in adults alone.

While this study was conducted on more than 18000 adults who aged between 70 and more in the ASPREE trials, likewise, it was found that cognitive decline is the most among individuals where gait and grip were lowest. The grip test was measured among entrants to ASPREE and was repeated among adults with an average life span of an average to 4.7 years.Specifically, ASPREE (ASPirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly) project is developed to study the long terms ageing defects among human beings.Meanwhile, the Findings of this research have been published in a paper related to a journal based on Alzheimer's and Dementia.
