Researchers from Curtin University, in collaboration with an International organisation, have used satellite images and have found out about the presence of reef-type landmasses that are present within the Nullarbor Plain. Moreover, this plain has been present for millions of years since the plain was underwater.
According to the research author Dr Milo from Curtin School of Earth and Planetary Sciences that the research has led to further challenges regarding research related to the plain that emerges from the ocean.
Besides, various regions in the Nullarbor Plain have remained unchanged from weathering processes for millions of years. With the assistance of high-quality satellite images, one has been able to have a clear idea of the sea bed structure of the plain. Moreover, there have been images prevalent with regard to images of long-vanished rivers and eroded soil. Due to stable conditions, the plain has managed to preserve large amounts of meteorites that emerged from astronomical bodies, which would be beneficial for further research. In addition, these studies would be beneficial for learning more about Earth's history and the formation of various natural habitats.
