Monash University in Australia and Hasanuddin university in Indonesia are collaborating to launch the process of construction of a sustainable infrastructure. For the most part, this initiative is decided to improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities for the informal settlements in Makassar. Moreover, there are more than 300 households living in Makassar that would obtain enhanced infrastructural facilities, which include processes of rainwater harvesting and ecologically friendly drainage facilities. Meanwhile, RISE has also been a partner in this project along with the local Government. According to the Mayor of Makassar city Mohd Pomanto this sustainability project is expected to be successful and thus would be effective in bringing more future investments. Likewise, its an honour for his administration that Makasar city has been selected as a pilot project.

The community is expected to obtain benefits from this project which is a research project based out of Monash University. Prof Lovering, Deputy director from Monash University, says that RISE is implementing proper research methodology to ensure environmental sustainability. While the Hasanuddin university would lead the RISE environmental research in Makassar, utilising the revolutionary sustainability-based technology forward to Indonesia and further to other regions.

Meanwhile, the Australian Government has committed over AUD 4 million to support these research projects. Speaking of this project, Ms Brown Robbins, Australian general counsel for climate change, "The Australian Government is proud to partner with Indonesia on innovative solutions that improve access to climate-resilient water and sanitation systems for residents of informal settlements while improving human health and wellbeing. "
